For members of my panel, I block off a full hour for each patient, I have same-day access, I do home visits if you are too sick to get out of bed, I am accessible by cell at all hours and on weekends if necessary, and if I am available in the after-hours, I would much rather see you myself than send you to urgent care or the ER.

When your child is well, we think in terms of preventive medicine. One type of preventive medicine is health promotion: how to live in a healthy way, what to expect for development, nutrition, discipline, temperament, and so on. A second type of prevention is avoiding disease: for instance, advice on how and when to baby-proof the house, and also giving the child immunizations. A third type of prevention is early detection: looking for early signs of disease, so treatment can be started early.

Mary Fisher, MD did her undergraduate work at UC Berkeley and then lived in Alameda for several years doing research with Roche Molecular Systems. She then attended University of Southern California School of Medicine and completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa. She is delighted to be back in Alameda practicing Family Medicine. She speaks a little Spanish and also enjoys travel, folk dancing, and knitting, but mostly enjoys spending time with her family.
